5th International Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest) Day

Everest KalapattharInternational Everest (Sagarmatha) Day is celebrated on May 29 each year to mark the date on which Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa conquered the highest peak in the world for the first time. Various activities are carried out during this day.

The 5th International Sagarmatha Day is going to be celebrated on May 29 as every year. The Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation and private sector are organizing various programs to mark the day of the first ascent to the world’s tallest mountain.

Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) along with Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and other travel trade associations are jointly organizing a procession on May 29 to celebrate this day. The procession will begin from the premises of Nepal Tourism Board at 7am and will have the participation of Everest summiteers, government officials, industry leaders and trekking agencies, among others.

The procession is being organized in the respect of Everest summiteers and to raise awareness for the coming Nepal Tourism Year 2012. TAAN has urged government to appoint Everest summiteers as brand ambassadors of Nepal Tourism Year 2012 for the promotion of the campaign at both domestic and international level.
